Andrew Galloway (he/they)
Visual Arts Lead
Andrew has been binding books since 2019 and is self-taught – learning from books (both by reading and disassembling them), online seminars and videos, and simply winging it to see what works. A background as a woodworker set him up with the basics of tool and materials knowledge; the rest has been picked up on the go. Bookbinding is an art that rewards jacks of all trades, and Andrew is no exception. He treasures a deep understanding of the fundamentals of techniques and materials, and hopes to pass this on to students. Under a sometimes gruff exterior is a love of sharing knowledge and helping others grow as artists. “Why?” is his very favorite question.
Andrew grew up in Texas and moved to Portland with his spouse in early 2020. He has a BA in philosophy and his primary job at MAC is maintaining the visual arts studios. His past times include woodworking, cooking, gardening, and collecting hobbies.
